👧🏼🟣 Ball Gymnastics with Hands & Feet Transfer | Leia (Age 10) | Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercise Ball Activities Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAkJbMrHyKjPlhWjeNnIY3PWbHwrSUtgN In this video, my co-instructor Leia (age 10) and I work on a ball gymnastics activity at the wall that involves transferring a ball between her feet and her hands 🟣💪 Leia is lying on her back with her hips positioned close to the wall and her feet placed up on the wall. She begins with a smaller ball held between her ankles, then lifts it up to her hands, and returns it back to the wall. This is a shortened version of the “rainbow” activity from a prior video, with a focus on controlled movement all the way to the wall. We then progress to a much larger exercise ball, which increases the challenge significantly. The larger ball requires more strength, coordination, and sustained control—especially through the core and inner thighs. You’ll see that the goal is not to throw the ball, but to **place it with control** each time. This activity is a fun and challenging way to build strength, coordination, and body awareness—especially through the core. We are working on: • Lower abdominal strengthening • Core control while lying on the back • Hip adductor strengthening (inner thighs) • Coordination between upper and lower body • Controlled movement at end range • Body awareness relative to the wall Using the wall adds an important layer of feedback. Leia must bring the ball all the way to the wall each time, which encourages full movement and improves accuracy. You’ll also see a key clinical point: Some children move easily through part of a motion, but lose control at the end range. This setup helps strengthen and control that final portion of the movement. 🧠 A clinical takeaway I often share: Requiring a clear “end point” (like touching the wall) helps children complete the full movement, rather than stopping short. It builds strength where it is often weakest and improves motor control. 👧🏿 This activity may be helpful for children who: 🧒🏾 Need core strengthening in a supported position 👧🏻 Are working on coordination between arms and legs 👦🏽 Need strengthening of the inner thighs (adductors) 🧑🏿🦱 Benefit from clear visual or physical targets 👩🏾🦰 Enjoy ball-based activities 👉🏾 This activity is part of my Ball Gymnastics Playlist, where therapy balls are used to build strength, coordination, balance, and motor planning.
