Knee Walking Without Using Hands πŸ‘±πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸš« | Low Tone Pediatric PT Pediatric Physical Therapy with Myla | @pediatricPTexercises I’m back with my co-instructor, Myla πŸ‘±πŸ»β€β™€οΈ β€” an 8-year-old with low tone and Down syndrome β€” and her sister Maycie (age 11) πŸ‘±πŸ»β€β™€οΈ helps us again in today’s activity. In our last video, Myla practiced knee walking in tall kneel, but she had difficulty staying upright and often wanted to use her hands for support. In this video, we change the task. Instead of telling her not to use her hands… we give her hands a job. Myla holds a small tray (a container lid) with a toy on it and knee walks back and forth between Maycie and me to deliver the object. This naturally encourages her to stay upright in tall kneel without putting her hands down. This activity works: β€’ Hip extension β€’ Trunk stability β€’ Balance in tall kneel β€’ Motor control without hand support β€’ Dual-task coordination (carrying + moving) Children with low tone often drop out of tall kneel when challenged, especially when they rely on their hands to stay upright. By occupying the hands, the body has to do the work instead. ✨ What You’ll Learn πŸ‘§πŸ½ How to reduce hand support during knee walking πŸ‘ Why giving the hands a job improves posture πŸ’ͺ🏿 How tall kneeling strengthens hip extension and trunk control 🎯 How simple object play increases engagement and repetition πŸ‘§πŸ»πŸ‘§πŸ½πŸ‘§πŸΎ How siblings can help make therapy fun and meaningful πŸŽ₯ Timestamps 0:03 Introduction & who is here 0:20 Review of challenges from last video 0:33 Setting up the β€œhands occupied” activity 0:47 Maycie demonstrates the game 1:15 Myla begins knee walking with tray 1:31 Why object choice matters (won’t roll off) 1:48 Progression ideas (harder objects / bigger tray) 2:00 Why this helps with posture and strength 2:07 Closing Watch Myla’s full playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAkJbMrHyKjMZYC1aYPuXrp-I9VFpNhCu Helpful for parents & professionals searching for: Knee walking exercise for kids Tall kneeling activities for low tone Down syndrome physical therapy exercises How to stop using hands for support Hip strengthening for children Pediatric physical therapy exercises for hypotonia Whether you’re a parent, therapist, educator, or caregiver πŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸ‘§πŸΌ, this is an easy and engaging way to build strength while encouraging more independent movement in tall kneel.
