Infinity Walk for Balance & Visual Tracking with Mila & Liam | Pediatric Physical Therapy 👋🏼 Hi there! I’m Amy Sturkey, a pediatric physical therapist. In today’s video, I’m joined by my co-instructors Mila (almost 4) 👧🏼 and Liam (8½) 🧒🏼 as we work on an Infinity Walk (figure-8 walking pattern) to challenge balance, coordination, and visual tracking. The infinity walk requires children to continuously adjust their body position while navigating curved paths. This becomes even more challenging when we add visual attention demands, such as maintaining eye contact with the camera while walking through the pattern. We begin with a simple weave, allowing Mila to follow behind me to learn the movement pattern. Liam then demonstrates the infinity walk independently. Finally, we increase the challenge by asking Liam to keep his eyes on the camera the entire time, combining balance, body awareness, and visual tracking into one functional task. This is a simple activity to set up, but it provides a meaningful balance challenge — especially for children who struggle to stay oriented in space while moving. ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 — Intro & overview of the Infinity Walk 0:14 — Meet Liam (8½) & Mila (almost 4) 0:20 — Simple weave to learn the pattern 0:37 — Independent walking through the pattern 1:05 — Transition to true Infinity Walk 1:13 — Infinity Walk with continuous visual tracking 1:54 — Why this activity supports balance & attention 2:09 — Wrap-up & final thoughts 🎯 Why Infinity Walks Help Kids Infinity (figure-8) walking activities help children: ⚖️ Improve dynamic balance on curved paths 👀 Practice visual tracking while moving 🧠 Strengthen motor planning and body awareness 🔄 Maintain spatial orientation during continuous movement 🚶♀️ Coordinate head, eye, and body movement together This is especially helpful for children who have difficulty paying attention to where they’re going while moving. 🔧 Ways to Modify the Activity To adjust the challenge, try: 👉🏽 Allowing a child to follow an adult or peer 👉🏼 Slowing the pace of movement 👉🏾 Removing visual tracking at first 👉🏻 Shortening the walking path 👉🏿 Practicing one loop at a time before combining both Always supervise closely and adjust based on a child’s abilities and safety needs. ❤️ 📺 Dynamic Balance Playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAkJbMrHyKjOc8OXSWsjFHqZnzrB18w2P 🌐 Website www.pediatricPTexercises.com 📘 Facebook Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises 📧 Contact amysturkey@gmail.com (For questions, kind words, or clarifications.
