I Tested the $1400 ENVE AR40s on Road, Gravel, and All-Road

On paper, they sit right in the middle- a 40mm deep carbon wheel with a 25mm internal width and ENVE’s Innerdrive hub. But that doesn’t really tell you how they actually ride. So I tested them three different ways. First on the Colnago V5Rs with 29mm ENVE Race Day tires as a road setup. Then on the Moots Routt CRD with 44mm ENVE HEX tires as a dedicated gravel setup. And finally on the Colnago G4-X with 45mm Continental TerraCompetition tires for fast gravel and mixed-terrain riding. I even brought the G4-X setup up to Los Angeles for Panda’s Ponies with Mitch Boyer, riding through the city and linking together pavement, climbs, and gravel sections along the way. In this video I break down how the AR40s actually feel in each environment, where they perform best, and how tire choice changes the overall ride. At $1400, they’re also one of the more accessible entry points into ENVE wheels- so the bigger question becomes where they make the most sense.
