We need to talk—because yeah, our YouTube channel got hijacked, and for a little while it basically got erased. In this video I walk through what happened, how the hackers pulled it off, and what I wish I would’ve done differently so you don’t make the same mistake. The wild part is it didn’t start with me at all: they compromised a company’s email server (a company I’d actually worked with before), sent a “sample contract” email, and I clicked a link with my guard down. Within seconds I was watching account settings change in real time. I also explain what it’s like trying to get help from YouTube when things go sideways—chatbots, forms with no confirmation, and then finally getting traction by messaging YouTube on Twitter. While all that was happening, we were still trying to keep our promise and finish the Jeep Willys FC170 cabover build for Easter Jeep Safari, which meant we filmed a ton but didn’t have time to edit (build videos are easily 40 hours each).
