The RTX 5090 FE is one of my favorite designs this gen because it’s absurdly compact and efficient for a flagship—airflow can basically shoot straight through the heatsink. The problem with two of them stacked is the top card turns into a space heater, so water cooling is the only real way to make a dual-5090 system usable.

Pros
- +Extremely compact, dense FE PCB and cooler design
- +Great performance scaling when kept cool (higher boost, lower power)
- +Works well in multi-GPU when thermal limits are removed
Cons
- -Top card can thermal limit badly in stacked air-cooled setups
- -Teardown is complex with tiny cables and overengineered assemblies
