In this review I tested Udio AI (still in beta) to see how well it holds up as an AI music generator—especially compared to Suno, which I’ve covered before and is basically the benchmark right now. I walk through Udio’s pricing (free daily credits, then Standard and Pro tiers) and I play a mix of “spotlight” tracks plus my own prompts so you can hear what the model is actually good at. My biggest early takeaway: some outputs sound surprisingly real, but the vocal mix often feels a bit buried in the instrumental—like the singer gets lost in the noise. I also stress-tested different genres. Udio did a decent job generating lyrics (I literally prompted it to rap about hot dogs), and it feels stronger when you lean into moody/ambient or instrumental-leaning vibes. But when I tried EDM/techno-ish stuff and more niche requests, the results were not great—beatboxing was especially rough. Finally, I cover the newer “Sessions Workspace” timeline editor that auto-detects song sections (verse/chorus/bridge). It’s a cool direction for hands-on editing, but it’s locked behind the paid plans, so for most people I’d say: use the free credits, experiment, and decide if the extra control is worth it.
