About This Video

In this video I tested Perplexity’s new Comet Browser and broke down what it actually does (and what it doesn’t). Comet is currently Windows-only, and it’s built on Chromium—so if you’re coming from Chrome or Brave, the layout, bookmarks, and most settings will feel familiar. The real difference is the built-in AI layer on the sidebar: an Assistant panel and a Voice Mode that lets you query Perplexity without constantly opening a separate ChatGPT tab. I also ran a quick Speedometer test on browserbench.org and Comet scored 24.7 versus my Brave at 15.9 (Opera even crashed during the test), so in my setup it came out noticeably faster. The assistant is convenient for quick tasks like summarizing info, pulling lists (I tried tech stocks), and even kicking off shopping prompts (it started pulling Amazon results when I asked for a travel bag). Voice Mode works and supports different languages and voice styles, but it felt a bit bare-bones—especially because I couldn’t easily get the voice response to appear as text in the chat. Overall, I like Comet: lightweight, fast, and practical if you want Perplexity-style answers with sources right inside your browser.
