In this episode I’m sitting down with Raoul Plickat (one of the OGs in German digital marketing) and we go deep on the real reason most entrepreneurs get stuck under ~$200k/mo: leadership and team structure. At some point you become the bottleneck—because everything depends on you, problems get delegated up, and you’re carrying the whole company on your shoulders. Raoul breaks down a super simple management framework that’s actually usable in fast-moving coaching/consulting/media businesses (not corporate bureaucracy). The core is a 1–9 rating system for every employee and for your exec team: 1–3 slows the company down, 4–6 maintains, 7–9 pushes the needle. Then you define what “a 9” looks like for each role, run weekly 15-minute written one-on-ones (priorities → main problem → how did you contribute → proposed solution), and review performance quarterly. We also talk about tying compensation to performance, using a green/yellow/red department scoreboard, and why you should hire HR earlier than you think to get yourself out of interviews. On the marketing side, we cover the shift from pure direct response to brand building: delay gratification, tell more stories, build pressure, and use CTAs as the “release valve” instead of spamming predictable calls-to-action.
