What is a CI/CD pipeline in DevOps?

CI/CD pipeline is a set of practices and tools that automate software build, testing, and deployment. I explained it as CI (Continuous Integration) + CD (Continuous Delivery/Deployment). The main goal is faster and more reliable releases with less manual work.

What is the difference between Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment?

In my explanation, Continuous Delivery pushes the application to staging/QA and usually keeps a manual approval before production. Continuous Deployment is more automated—after passing tests, it goes directly to production without manual intervention. Both improve speed, but deployment is fully hands-off.

Yes—one big benefit I mentioned is quick rollbacks. Because the pipeline creates consistent artifacts and releases smaller changes, it’s easier to revert to a stable version when something goes wrong. That reduces downtime and production risk.

CI/CD is one of the core parts of modern DevOps and agile development. CI means Continuous Integration, where developers merge code to a shared repository (like Git) many times a day, and every commit triggers automated build and automated testing so new code doesn’t break the existing application. Then I covered CD—Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment. After the code passes the tests, the pipeline prepares deployable artifacts (like Docker images or application packages) and pushes them to staging/QA, and then to production. In Continuous Delivery, you may keep a manual approval step before production; in Continuous Deployment, it goes live automatically without manual intervention.
