Yeah guys, welcome back — I’m Mirakilouz Beatz, and in this episode I went live to show you how I mix Afrobeat vocals from scratch, no shortcuts. I started by playing the raw vocals with no effects, then I went straight into my usual first step: EQ. Most people compress first, but for me I love to EQ first, cut the bad frequencies, and clean the vocal before anything else. I also used Waves NS1 to suppress noise, then FabFilter Pro-Q (I mostly love the old version) to shape the vocal, and Pro-MB to control midrange build-up dynamically instead of doing a static EQ cut. After the cleanup, I did serial compression: first an 1176-style compressor (I used UAD 1176, but I explained you can use Waves CLA-76 if you don’t have UAD), then an LA-2A (I used the Waves version here). From there, I controlled the mids again with Neutron, added just a little Fresh Air (like 5% and 3% on the highs), and used a de-esser to control sibilance. Then I brought the “magic” with my StudioRack preset for doubler + stereo movement, clean reverb (with EQ and sidechain so it doesn’t muddy the mix), and a ping-pong delay locked to host tempo. Finally, I used RX Breath Control to tame breaths, and I showed how to save and load the presets in Cubase — and yes, I shared the exact preset for you to download and use.
