Cloudflare might just have killed WordPress—and no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. In this video, I break down Cloudflare’s new open-source CMS called EM Dash (yes, that’s the actual name), which they’re positioning as a “spiritual successor” to WordPress. I walk through their blog post, the motivation behind rebuilding WordPress from the ground up in TypeScript, and the big promise: fixing the fundamental security mess around WordPress plugins by sandboxing plugins in isolates and forcing explicit, manifest-based permissions. I also actually run EM Dash locally and show you what it feels like today. My honest take: it’s a decent attempt and the architecture direction is interesting—serverless, scale-to-zero, Cloudflare Workers-friendly, and it’s powered by Astro (which Cloudflare recently acquired). But as a product, it’s super raw right now: UI polish is missing, basic editor safeguards aren’t there, and I hit bugs like draft previews not working and some settings pages feeling broken. If you want a lightweight CMS with modern infra and better plugin security primitives, it’s worth watching. If you’re expecting WordPress-level maturity and the plugin ecosystem, we’re nowhere close yet.
