Thanks for watching this expert guide to the Horseshoe Mesa hike in the Grand Canyon. Sometimes referred to as the Grandview Trail, this out-and-back trail leads to incredible overlooks at the edge of the Horseshoe Mesa. The Grand Canyon is the ancestral home of the Hopi, Hualapai, Paiute, and Navajo. In fact, many of the modern-day reservations border the park. The native ties to the land here can be seen all over if you know where to look. Visit with respect and consider spending time with native communities during our adventure. The hike to Horseshoe Mesa is best done as an overnight. I’m not kidding when I say that we didn’t see anyone for 36 hours. It is an unbelievable opportunity to really experience the vast, wild nature of the canyon. As with all remote visits to the Grand Canyon. You will want to be prepared. Read up on desert hiking safety. Talk to the backcountry office. And really understand that these trails lead to exceptionally wild places! As always, visit wild spaces responsibly! Always pack out your trash, including water bottles, fruit peels, toilet paper, and anything else you bring with you. Leave only footprints. Follow all closures, fire bans, drone regulations (no drones in the Grand Canyon), and dog rules (dogs cannot visit Horseshoe Mesa). ✨ Follow me… Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/Aforestfox/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@megintheforest Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/megintheforest/ ✨ Additional Resources ✨ Purchase Your America the Beautiful Annual Parks Pass and enter the Grand Canyon at no charge (affiliate link): https://bit.ly/nationalparkspass2024 Hot info about backcountry permits in the Grand Canyon, including Horseshoe Mesa Campground: https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/backcountry-permit.htm Hot Tip: The advanced lottery is worth it. Horseshoe Mesa only has 3 sites and they do sell out occasionally! Note: You are able to book nights at the Horseshoe Mesa Campground online, but subsequent wilderness areas will require you to speak with a ranger at the backcountry office. There is Instagram and there is reality. And you should be inspired by BOTH. I intentionally use photos and videos that have been edited for color and lighting, and ones that haven’t. All the photos and videos you see of Horseshoe Mesa and the Grand Viewpoint in the Grand Canyon were taken by me. #grandcanyon #grandcanyonnationalpark #nationalpark #nationalparks #nationalparkgeek #secretgrandcanyon #grandcanyonbackpacking ✨ Time stamps: 00:00 Intro 00:15 Best time to hike 00:27 Trail information and difficulty 00:40 History of the trail 00:46 Permit information 1:14 Best camping areas 1:36 Water information 1:58 Nearby excursions 2:17 Secret views 2:27 Things to do after your hike
