This ultra-lightweight survival and first aid kit for hiking is a great solution to all of those little things that go a long way to help in an emergency Again, I’m not a medical professional and if YOU feel comfortable with more, then carry more. I’m just sharing my experience with how my kit has trimmed down after 15 years of experience hiking and backpacking at a high level. THE SHARPIE A Sharpie is a great tool if someone in your group gets hurt, and you have to leave them for help. Simply write important information on them. How they were injured, age, blood type, allergies, vitals, and anything that could be helpful if someone stumbled upon the victim. As always it’s better to STAY IF YOU CAN, which is why an SOS device such as a Garmin is so helpful. But some circumstances are dire and help is needed. A bandana/BUFF and some hair ties are great to use for a tourniquet or cloth patch. One thing I would consider adding to my kit is quick clot. This stuff is designed to stop major bleeding fast. I don’t have it yet, but if I had to put any more weight on it, that’s what I would buy. Wanna see the weights? Check out the pinned comment down below.
