The Baptist Draw slot canyon in the San Rafael Swell, Utah is such an amazing adventure. I’m really excited for you to explore this wonderful landscape! Yes, you certainly can explore this slot canyon while pregnant, but please note that you should speak to your care team before undergoing such a wild adventure. Rescue is hard to come by and you are going at your own risk! (pregnant or not). I’ve got a few resources for you. ✨GPS to Camping at Red Canyon If you want the GPS pin for the rad Red Canyon Campspot, sign up for my newsletter and reply to the first email with “Red Canyon campsite GPS” and I’ll send it your way! Check it out here: https://www.backpacker.com/skills/how-to-start-canyoneering/ You want to make sure you use a tool like weather.gov to check for rain in the forecast. Rain causes deadly flash floods - water in slot canyons can quickly reach 30-40 feet high, essentially drowning you before you have a chance to escape. Therefore it’s essential to stay out of slot canyons if there is ANY rain in the forecast within a 30-mile radius of a slot canyon. Look up canyon at drainage systems too! It can be sunny where you are and raining up canyon where flooding can start. Rule number 1 when visiting the desert is DON’T BUST THE CRUST! That weird, raised, bumpy soil you see is alive. It’s called cryptobiotic soil and it is an integral part of preventing erosion and allowing for plant life to thrive in the desert. It is fragile and stepping on it will ruin years of development. Stay on marked trails when possible. If you do venture into the backcountry, pay attention to where you’re walking. Camp and walk on hard surfaces where possible. And you should be inspired by BOTH. I intentionally use photos and videos that have been edited for color and lighting, and ones that haven’t. All the photos and videos you see of Baptist were taken by me. I rarely edit other people out of photos (and I would make a note here if I did!). #canyon #slotcanyon #canyoneering #utah #utahtravel #sanrafaelswell #rappelling #rappel ✨Time stamps: 00:00 - Intro 00:17 - Technical rating and practical info 00:40 - Water in the canyon 00:56 - Required gear 01:04 - trailhead access 01:11 - Reaching the start of Baptist Draw 01:29 - Navigating the canyon 01:52 - The rappel 02:07 - The long exit 02:15 - the short exits 02:31 - Camping options 02:40 - responsibility and safety 02:53 - Outro 02:58 - outtakes
