You Won’t Believe What I Found Hidden Under A Waterfall!

This adventure starts high in the Cascade Mountains during spring runoff, where I’m chasing quartz float, mineralized rock, and placer gold up a steep mountain creek in hopes of finding the source. After panning moss and inside bends for fine gold, I start following rusty quartz, green mineralized rock, and intriguing contact zones between intrusive rock and phyllite farther upstream. What began as a simple prospecting trip quickly turns into something much bigger when I spot a waterfall… and discover a hidden old gold mine tucked directly beneath it. Inside the adit, I find an incredible scene that looks almost untouched by time: an old cedar plank door, a lock still hanging in place, drill steel, hand tools, timber, and a wet tunnel running right under the waterfall. Underground, I examine green altered rock, quartz veinlets, faulted zones, and possible gold-bearing structures while trying to understand what the old-timers were chasing. Back at the shop, I wash and cut the samples on my new 18-inch rock saw to get a better look at the mineralization, including the beautiful green material that may be listwanite or mariposite-related alteration. This video is part prospecting trip, part hidden mine exploration, and part geology deep dive.
