"Low Difficulty, High Consequence" — Finding the Lost Mine There is a lost mine perched on a cliffside that hasn’t seen a human footprint in at least 30 years. Armed with drone footage, old documentation from 1984, and a healthy dose of fear, we’re heading up the mountain to see if the "high-grade assays" we’ve heard about are real. This wasn't just a hike—it was an adventure climbing mission. 🚁 Part 1: The Drone Scout with Brent (Ghost Town Living) We started the journey with Brent from @GhostTownLiving We spotted the portal with a drone, but quickly realized that the traverse was way beyond our comfort zone. With a "bag of hammers" and a 200-foot drop into "hamburger town" below us, we knew we needed professional backup. ⛓️ Part 2: Bolting the Cliff with Bobby (HowNot2) To get across the wet, slimy, and loose rock, I brought in Bobby from @HowNOT2 We spent the day drilling into the rock face with 3/8" DeWalt wedge bolts and navigating a "low difficulty, high consequence" route. Between the fog, the slippery cliffs, and my own shaking hands, this was one of the most intense days I’ve ever had on the property. In this video: The Claim Corner: Finding a steel rod from 128 years ago. Modern Prospecting: Using drones to find hidden portals in vertical terrain. The "Miner Hammer": What happens when you forget a real hammer and have to improvise with a rock. The Quartz Vein: Finding oxidized "redder the better" quartz float. The Portal Reveal: Getting eyes on the abandoned entrance (and realizing why the miners definitely didn't take our route). "I can taste the fear in my mouth a little bit... the one time you slip, you go down 200 feet." ⏱️ Timestamps: 0:00 – The Legend of the Lost Mine 1:45 – Scouting with Brent (Ghost Town Living) 3:30 – Drone Scouting: Finding the Portal 5:10 – Realizing the Danger: "Hamburger Town" 7:00 – Round 2: Suiting up with Bobby (How Not To) 9:20 – Drilling and Bolting the First Route 12:45 – The "Minor Hammer" Improv 15:30 – The Scariest Traverse of my Life 18:15 – Eyes on the Portal & The Quartz Vein 21:00 – Rappelling Down & Final Thoughts 🤝 Special Thanks to our Collaborators: Brent @GhostTownLiving – Thanks for joining the initial scout!
