Millions Of Dollars Of Canadian Gold Being Mined

NUGGET HUNTING: Mining Vancouver Island with Andy Thrax I’m standing on millions of dollars worth of gold—literally. Today, I’ve traveled up to Vancouver Island to team up with @ANDYTHRAXX to work his high-grade placer claims. Andy has spent the last year engineering and building a custom wash plant from the ground up, and today, he’s letting me into the excavator to see if we can find the "cream" sitting on bedrock. THE THRAX WASH PLANT SPECS Andy’s plant is a beast designed for a single operator. It’s impressive to see how well this flat trommel scrubs the clay and gravel without needing a traditional incline. Feed System: Vibrating shaking deck with spray bars and 2-inch grizzly. Trommel: Flat design that relies on volume to force material through. Sluice Box: 32 inches wide by 10 feet long. Water Volume: 500 GPM supplied by dual 3-inch gas pumps. Capacity: Roughly 30 yards per hour. THE MISSION: DIGGING FOR BEDROCK We were digging into some beautiful virgin ground, moving roughly 20-30 yards of material before the excavator decided to take an unscheduled break. Even with the mechanical hiccups and a "new operator" (me) at the controls, we managed to get down into the gray/blue mineralized gravels where the heavy gold hides. THE GOLD REVEAL AND THE CLEANUP TROMMEL After the excavator went down, we did a clean-out of the first mat. Andy also gave us a look at his miniature cleanup plant—a custom-built unit that jigs the sluice and augers the tailings simultaneously. THE FINAL RESULTS Material Processed: ~20-30 Cubic Yards Run Time: ~2 Hours (intermittent) First Mat Recovery: 5.66 Grams Total Recovery: 6.0 Grams At current prices, that’s a solid payday for a couple of hours of "messing around" for the cameras!
