Fire Assaying Jeff Williams’ High-Grade Ore: Is it REALLY Worth it?

The boxes have arrived! @Askjeffwilliams sent up four bags of representative samples from our recent trip to his super high-grade Nevada mine. Today, we’re putting this rock to the test to answer one big question: How much gold can actually be recovered? We're running a side-by-side test comparing Gravity Recovery (Panning) vs. a Full Fire Assay (Smelting). I’m breaking out the "old faithful" disc mill to ensure zero cross-contamination. We’ll perform a sieve analysis to check our grind size and then split the sample: Gravity Test: 1kg of material panned down to find the "free" gold. Fire Assay: A 100g sample smelted with flux, litharge, and flour to capture every single grain of gold and silver. The results were eye-opening. While the panning showed some beautiful "free" gold, the fire assay revealed that there is significantly more gold tied up in the rock than a simple pan would suggest. Panning Recovery: ~16.5g per ton Smelting Recovery: ~45g per ton (1.5 oz/ton!) It just goes to show that you can’t always trust the pan! If Jeff only relied on gravity, he’d be leaving more than half his gold in the tailings. What do you think of that 1.5 oz/ton result?
