The Zen DAC Signature has that familiar iFi Burr-Brown character—kind of warm-bright and smooth—but my issue is the transient response. Compared to my Modi 3, attacks felt blunted and softened, even if it can pull out micro-detail. At $249 it’s a tougher sell, and I’d personally rather swap in a different DAC under the amp.

Cons
- -Transients/attacks sound softened and muted compared to alternatives I tested
- -Price is hard to justify in a very competitive segment
- -No optical input (USB only)
