The Sundara 2020 revision is a lot more compelling than the older one because the bass extends better and fixes what was my biggest FR complaint. It’s still that typical Hifiman U-shaped signature, but for ~$350 it’s one of the strongest picks for detail and overall technical performance in the sub-$500 range.
Pros
- +Improved bass extension vs older revision
- +Excellent detail/resolution for the price
- +Good imaging and a decent, not-too-narrow stage
- +Comfortable for long sessions (for me)
Cons
- -Stock cable is garbage
- -Not super easy to drive despite low impedance
- -Headband/adjustment design can feel janky and scratch paint
- -Timbre can sound a bit plasticky
