The HEDD Audio HEDDPhone is a really interesting first step for full-range AMT headphones, and it’s genuinely cool to hear what AMT does in a headphone format. That said, I ended up viewing it more as a tech demo than a top pick at its price because of comfort issues, odd tuning choices, and severe driver crinkle on the unit I reviewed.
Pros
- +Unique full-range AMT driver design
- +Fairly wide soundstage with above-average imaging
- +Good speed and solid macro dynamics for a planar-like presentation
Cons
- -Very heavy (718g) with no suspension strap; comfort is a major issue
- -Limited height adjustment can cause poor fit for many heads
- -Sub-bass roll-off and strange midrange dips/peaks
- -Severe driver crinkle on the reviewed unit
- -Stock cable is stiff and not great
