The Asgard 3 is one of those amps that’s shockingly good for $200. In my A/B testing it kept better staging and dynamic contrast than the Gilmore Lite MK2, and it came across detailed without being overly colored. If you’re shopping bang-for-buck single-ended power, this one is hard to ignore.
Pros
+Sounds wide and open with strong staging (especially on HD 800)
+Better dynamic contrast and less compression than the Gilmore Lite MK2 in my test
+Very strong value for the price; sounds more expensive than $199
+Plenty of power on tap for most headphones
Cons
-Has a bit of glare (though not as bad as older Schiit like the original Jotunheim)
-Continuity isn’t fully Class A across the entire power range
-Internal DAC module is optional, but I’d personally rather run an external DAC
