I'm Matt, and today I’m going to show you how to add a gradient background in Canva. I’m currently working on some YouTube thumbnails, and I have this standard purple background. But I also want to show you how to create a gradient effect, like the one that transitions from dark black to light blue. First things first, to change your background color, you need to click directly on the background itself. Make sure you’re not clicking on any images or text. Once you have the background selected, head up to the top of the toolbar and click on the background color option. You’ll see a variety of document colors available. You can choose any of these colors, and you’ll notice the changes reflected instantly. It’s pretty cool how it pops, especially with the drop shadow effect on my image. You can also get more specific by entering a hex code or using the color picker to match a color within your design. Now, while you can use solid colors and photo colors, the real gem here is the gradient options at the bottom of the color menu. You’ll find gradients that go from top to bottom or horizontally, just like the one I showed you earlier. Gradients are super trendy right now, especially for YouTube thumbnails, but you can use them for any project. If you click on "see all," you’ll discover an extensive collection of gradients. There are monochromatic gradients, cool tones, warm tones, and more. Some of these monochromatic options are really neat and can add a unique touch to your designs. So, have fun experimenting with different gradients! Whether it’s for YouTube thumbnails or any other Canva projects, there’s a lot you can do. I hope you found this video helpful for creating background gradients in Canva. If you did, please give it a thumbs up; it really helps out.
