I’m currently logged into my YouTube Studio account, and I’ll walk you through the process step by step. First, I navigate to my recent videos. I have several scheduled, but for this demo, I’ll click on one of them to access the details. This particular video is about my website, Capital Reads, where you can find finance and investment books. Once in the video details, I head over to the sidebar and click on the editor. Here, I see the blur option, which is super handy for editing videos after they’ve been uploaded. I usually edit my videos using a combination of Screen Studio and Final Cut Pro before exporting them, but if I forget to blur something, I can do it right here in YouTube. Keep in mind that the video will display in low resolution while editing, but you can still adjust the playback speed and zoom in as needed. Now, let’s focus on the blur feature. I click on the plus sign next to the blur option, which gives me two choices: face blur or custom blur. Since this video doesn’t contain any faces, I’ll go with the custom blur. With the custom blur, I can blur out anything in the video. For instance, if I wanted to blur out some books, I can simply drag across the area I want to obscure. I can also move the blur around and adjust its size. This feature is versatile, allowing me to blur words, images, faces, or anything else that I want to keep private. One important thing to note is that the blur function in YouTube isn’t as intuitive as it could be. It's more of a backup option if you need to quickly edit something after uploading. While you can track the blur position to follow an object, it doesn’t perform as well as some other editing tools like Screen Studio, which can intuitively follow the object you want to blur. If you need to blur multiple sections throughout your video, you can do that too. You can create new blurs or cut and paste existing ones. Once you’ve finished blurring, you’ll want to click save. I won’t save anything right now since this is just a demonstration. After you save your edits, YouTube will take some time—usually about half an hour to an hour—to process those changes. However, the edits will go live relatively quickly. I hope you found this video on how to blur out an object in a YouTube video helpful.
