One of my friends reached out and asked if I could take three of his toms, and cut them down into a shallow depth, travel friendly kit which he could fit, along with his piccolo snare, all in one bag. Of course, I was excited to take this on, and in the end I think we got it to work real nice! 00:00 Intro 03:30 Disassembly 06:06 Build Out 12:57 Demo 14:00 First Impressions 16:58 Demo (Muffled) 17:44 Final Thoughts Use this link to shop at Sweetwater, and support my channel by doing so: http://sweetwater.sjv.io/5g0gxn Don't forget to subscribe to my channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/malonedrum?sub_confirmation=1 _____________________________________________________________ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/malonedrum/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/malonedrum Website: https://www.malonedrum.com Email: malonedrum@gmail.com ___________________________________________________________ If you want to support my work and leave a tip on Venmo (@MikeMaloneDrum) or PayPal (malonedrum@gmail.com), I’ll happily share my PDF transcription with you! About This Video

In this video I take on a pretty specific (and honestly pretty fun) challenge: one of my buddies hits me up and asks if I can take three of his toms and cut them down into a super shallow, travel-friendly setup—something he can fit in one bag along with his piccolo snare. So I walk you through the whole process from the start: breaking the drums down, figuring out what makes sense dimension-wise, and then building everything back out so it’s actually usable and not just a “cool idea” on paper. I show the disassembly, the build-out, and then I do a couple demos so you can hear what these cut-down toms do in the real world. The big takeaway is that you can absolutely make a compact kit work if you’re smart about depth, hardware choices, and expectations—because you’re always trading something to gain portability. By the end, I give you my first impressions, try it again muffled, and wrap with final thoughts on whether this one-bag kit concept is actually practical (spoiler: I think we got it working real nice).
