What is a municipal business license, when do you need one and why? If you're operating a business or engaging in business activity, most municipalities (cities, towns, rural municipalities) require your business to have a business license. Sometimes, this can even be the case if your business is not location in that municipality but occasionally does work in the municipality. Without having a proper license, you can be subject to significant fines.
