Beautiful Knotted Velvet Headband - Easy Beginner Sewing Tutorial

This is a gorgeous headband, featuring a textured front knot, is so comfortable and so very easy to make. I show you a fast way to finish the back seam and the whole headband is so comfortable against your hair and skin and lovely with textures and fashion style. I also show you how to use the full width of fabric to make a second style, a plain headband, that does not have a knot. Not much fabric wasted with this project folks!! The fabric is called "Steamed Velour" and it is a knit fabric with a dense thick low pile that feels and looks like high end velvet. It is hit and miss finding it in large fabric stores but my two very reliable suppliers have loads of colors and great quality fabric. I buy mine from each of them. It is very moderately priced and great value as you can make 8 headbands from 1 yard/meter of this fabric. It is 100% polyester and 58-60 inches wide. If you see "stretch velvet" that is different. Steamed Velour does not have any lycra or spandex added so it is not as stretchy as the velvets with those fibres added. Basically you will add about 7 inches or 18 cm to your head size, rounding up to the nearest inch or cm, to get the right length for you headband and I suggest a depth of the band piece to be 8 - 8.5 inches or 21-23 cm. Finished band can be adjusted in size by making the knot tighter or looser. The fabric has high holding power so the knot will not slip in size once you adjust it on your head.
