Our Day in Santos, Brazil 🇧🇷 | Beaches, City Life, & Budget Finds!

Lanette and Johan spent the day exploring Santos, Brazil — their first time ever in the country! 🇧🇷 This vibrant coastal city is famous for its stunning beaches, relaxed city vibe, and a canal system designed to manage heavy rainfall and prevent flooding. It gave the city a unique charm — palm-lined walkways, shady benches, and scenic bridges added to the experience. 🌴 They started by catching an Uber into downtown, near Gonzaga Beach, and hit the streets on foot. The mission? A new battery bank 🔋. While they found one, the first shop sneakily removed the price tag mid-demo and then quoted a higher price — which didn’t sit well with Johan 😤, who walked out unimpressed. Needing a break from the heat, they stopped at McDonald’s 🍟 for a quick lunch — a little comfort food from home. Then came a relaxing stroll along the Santos canal system, where shaded sidewalks made for a perfect little detour. It was hot out, and shade was essential! They ducked into Bar Heinz, a casual local spot, for a cold beer 🍺 and a breather from the sun — totally unplanned but exactly what they needed. Since it was their first time in Brazil, they remained alert while exploring, as they’d been told to stay aware of pickpocketing and petty crime. One unexpected highlight? A stop at the local pharmacy, where Lanette was able to refill her cholesterol medication without a prescription. She walked out with a 5-month supply for just $15/month — something that would cost way more back in the U.S.! 💊💸 Before heading back to the ship, they visited a restaurant called Beduino to try some local food 🥘, then popped into a few convenience stores on a quest for Sprite Zero. The first one didn’t have it, and the second stop — an AMPM — had a twisty bar entry system they couldn’t figure out, leaving Johan a little frustrated again 😅. But hey — it’s all part of the adventure! The attached gas station was full-service ⛽ with uniformed attendants — a rare sight these days and something they hadn’t seen in a while. They eventually caught an Uber back to the ship 🚗, feeling sun-soaked but happy.
