Mad Mapper Is being used to run all the lighting in the Video Wall Venue which is also referred to as a VOLUME. Mad Mapper has a feature called Mad Light which allows control of lighting via Artnet. We used Multiple Artnet Nodes (1 for the ceiling grid, and another for our floor package) to control all the lights in the venue. We also wrote some custom code for mad mapper to better control the movements of the lights so they can be more dynamic instead of static positions. In this video I’m showing how we got our lighting grid to react and “follow” our video feed inside our video wall venue (the Volume). The whole build was driven by speed: we had two days to hang everything, run power/data, program it, and then turn around and do our first live event in the space. I break down how I laid out the rig—12 movers split front/mid/back for full coverage, wash lights in a circle so I can hit talent from every angle, and Leko-style hard sources placed near the washes so I can fake a “sun” and get real shadow direction when we’re matching Unreal environments. Then I sprinkled in effect bars (motorized tilt) and added separate “audience/mood” lighting around the room. Control-wise, we didn’t have a grandMA sitting here, so I ran the whole grid on Mad Mapper using Mad Light over Art-Net. We used multiple Art-Net nodes (one for the ceiling grid, one for the floor package), and the big win is that Mad Mapper can ingest NDI/video feeds—so I can overlay visuals directly onto fixtures and keep the lighting moving with whatever the wall/scene is doing. Mad Mapper isn’t the best mover console, so I leaned on custom assets/code (from my nightclub days) to get pan/tilt groups, fans, and dynamic movement instead of static positions. The takeaway: one build that serves both live events and virtual production, and it’s fast to iterate as the space keeps evolving.
