not all best friends are forever

Not all friends are forever Some friends are for life. But others, not so much.  A lot of people often get confused between the two. They end up holding onto toxic friendships for way too long. Like bro, that shits been dead in the water for the last three months, you need to let it go.  People often say “Oh don’t worry about high school, you’ll find you’re forever friends in college.”  Everyone is looking for these “Forever Friends,” well guess what, most of the friends you’ll have in life, aren’t those “forever friends.” Y’all will probably stop talking at some point or another. Most of the time. I might sound cynical but I'm just talking from experience.  So for a lot of people, high school sucks. A lot of people, either got bullied in high school, or just had really shitty friends from high school, because the best people people out there for you, statistically, are probably not going to be in that tiny town in South Carolina where you grew up. I’m just sayin.  Now these people go into college with that mentality, like “oh here’s where i'm gonna find my forever friends.” Most of the time, whoever you were friends with at the beginning of freshman year, is probably not gonna still be your friend by graduation. It's just one of those things. It’s fine, you move, you live, you learn.  Basically my point is that people need to get over this idea (fixation) of “forever friends” (its stupid and archaic, and just holds you back in your interactions with people.)  Like I get it, you’re looking for those people that you’re gonna be with for the rest of your life. That's great. But unfortunately, most of the people you meet, won’t be those people.  Just enjoy the moment. Just enjoy the people you have around you right now, that you need in your life right now. Just because you won’t need some of them in ten years, doesn’t mean that you won’t need them for these next six months.  And hey, if it's like 2 years later, and you realize, “Hm, this friendship is no longer bearing any fruit,” or “This friendship doesn’t bring any value to my life.” Or if it becomes toxic, if you don’t agree on this fundamental ideal, or you just don’t want this person in your life anymore, what should you do?  Leave.  You don’t need them.  When we’re dating someone, and we fall out of love with them, we don’t stay with them, we break up. So what’s the difference with friendships?  I don’t know why people are so fixated on these “forever friendships” to the point where they’ll beat a dead horse, and drag it along that track for as long as they possibly can, until they wear it down, into bones and dust. And look, both kinds of friends are important. Some friends are for life, and some just aren’t. Both kinds are important. Just because someone won’t be in your life for the next 40 years doesn’t mean that the 6 months that they are in your life, won’t mean something, that they won’t bring value for those six months. Doesn’t mean that the lessons you’ll learn, and the person you’ll become, through that friend, won’t help you (in the long run) after that six month time limit is up, and you can go and live the rest of your life the way you were supposed to, with those lessons having been learned. And with that (character) development you went through.  They may no longer be that best friend you were going to spend the rest of your life with like you planned. But that’s okay.
