This is the Sony MDR-1AM2 I talk about in the review: a very light closed-back with an engaging, fun tuning and excellent comfort. I like it most when it’s discounted, because at full retail in 2024 the resolution and staging don’t feel as competitive as some alternatives.
Pros
- +Very light weight and comfortable for long sessions
- +Engaging W-shaped/V-shaped style tuning with good sub-bass rumble
- +Treble is detailed without being overly hot or artificial
Cons
- -Overall resolution falls short versus competition at the price
- -Soundstage is average and not very deep
- -Mid-bass can be too pronounced and can sound muddy on bass-heavy tracks
