I backed the Moment 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter on Kickstarter and was so excited to finally get it in hand. It’s a really well-built, metal adapter that’s single-focus, which makes it way easier for me than the more finicky anamorphic setups I’ve used before. After a quick setup and some backyard tests (including flares and rack focus), my first impression is that it looks great and I’d recommend it so far.
Pros
- +Single-focus design makes shooting much easier (set taking lens to infinity, then focus on the adapter)
- +Noticeably wider field of view compared to shooting without the adapter
- +Solid metal build and feels well made
- +82mm front filter thread is convenient for NDs and other filters
Cons
- -Heavy at 880g (almost two pounds), so lens support may be needed
- -Footage is squeezed in-camera and requires a 1.33x de-squeeze in post
- -Needs careful alignment/orientation before shooting
