When stories like this spread, the public gets (rightfully) hesitant to leave their dog with a trainer for 2–3 weeks—especially without serious vetting. I’m a retired dog training business owner (I’ve owned three businesses over ~30 years), and I’m telling you how legitimate board & train operators can counterbalance the skepticism. First: invest in a professional, climate-controlled kennel setup and add 24/7 online video surveillance so owners can check in. Pair that with strict, documented care routines—feeding schedules, notes, and uploads to something like a Google Drive folder—so you can actually show what’s happening, not just claim it. Second: build credibility through local accountability. Make friends with other reputable trainers/pet pros and do random drop-ins on each other’s operations, then publicize that you’re being checked. I don’t think “more government” fixes this; I think the industry self-policing—plus transparency and documentation—helps the good operators win and makes it harder for the weirdos and dumb asses to thrive.
