About This Video

I moved to Toronto in December 2023, and after going back to visit my family in Nigeria, I wanted to sit down and share what living alone here has actually been like for me. In this video I break it into five things people always ask about: cost of living (especially rent), weather and seasons, transportation, diversity and culture, and the job market/opportunities—plus the little details you only learn once you’re really here. On rent, downtown Toronto is still expensive. From my research, a one-bedroom is usually around $2,100 and up depending on the building and what you want, studios can be a bit different layout-wise, and two-bedrooms can push close to the $2,850–$3,000 range. I also talk about what landlords typically look for (credit score, proof of income, references) and why a realtor can make the process easier—usually with no fee to you. For day-to-day life, I’m big on not relying on a car downtown—traffic is real—so I stick to TTC and biking (the public bike stations are clutch). I also get into how winter affects transit, how diverse Toronto is (and where I order Nigerian food), and why opportunities are “endless” if you’re strategic: put yourself out there, go to events, and reach out—because you only need one good connection to change everything.
