It’s finally here! The follow up to my “Goodbye, Windows!” video has arrived. It’s time for me to say “Hello, Linux!” (Part 1 of at least 2). Sorry this took me a while to finish; I had to finish switching to Linux first. And I am not able to do this full-time… yet. In this video, I break down most of my switch to Linux, primarily discussing my two Home Theater PCs, my laptop, and my NUC. My desktop and tablet will be covered in Part 2, coming soon. I also discuss the status of gaming on Linux, the productivity software I now use, and the creative software I’m using on Linux. I also talk through some of the major issues I experienced in making the switch, and provide some initial conclusions a few weeks into my full-time Linux journey. Chapters outlined below. On Linux Mint and Nobara it was immediately detected and worked perfectly once I followed the instruction to pair the controller to the dongle. There might be better options out there, but this is what I actually use. GameSir Nova Lite - https://amzn.to/3JUCrZC While not visibly shown in this video, this is the controller I used to play some of the games shown in this video, and I think it is a great option as a budget wireless controller. I’ve used it in Windows, Batocera, and Nobara without issue. It did not immediately work in Linux Mint, though, but I did no troubleshooting to try and get it to work. I bought it for my Batocera box initially, but really like it and use it for more than retro stuff now. TourBox NEO - https://amzn.to/4oMwblS If you are on Windows or Mac and do video editing or other creative tasks, this thing is amazing. Before I switched, I used it in both DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Lightroom. Unfortunately, it does not support Linux, so it is getting retired from my workflow unless the company decides to offer Linux support. XENCELABS Quick Keys - https://amzn.to/480wp1j Since my TourBox doesn’t support Linux, I’m using this instead. I originally bought it for travel, but find that I am using it all the time now. I highly recommend this thing, and the manufacturer released a Linux version of the software on their website. I am currently using it flawlessly with Nobara. This is what I use for my initial cuts and some other functions in DaVinci Resolve. It is kind of like an Elgato Stream Deck with a scroll wheel, but different. Check it out at the link to learn more.
