About This Video

In this video I’m back on the Maschine MK3 making something a little different for me: a chill, low-key pop beat with a light house influence. I set the tempo to 125 BPM and pretty much just jump right in—no long talking—building the groove piece by piece until it starts feeling right. A big part of the process here is trusting the vibe in the moment, keeping it simple, and letting the track transform as I add and swap sounds. One of the main things I focus on is the drum pocket and sound choice. I’m listening for what’s missing, and for me it came down to the snare/clap needing more presence. I test a few options, tighten the kit up, and once that stronger snare lands, the beat locks in. After that I arrange the full track and play it back so you can hear it as a complete idea. It’s not doing too much, but it hits the exact “very chill, very low key” house-inspired pop vibe I was aiming for—and I love trying new things like this to keep my production fresh.
