Hey y’all—today I’m back on the Maschine MK3 making an R&B/hip-hop beat from scratch, and I’m honestly just happy to be back with you. I start by locking in the tempo at 110 BPM, then I build the whole vibe around a sound I love (you’ve probably heard me use it before because I’m obsessed with it). From there I lay down some chords quick, keep it simple, and focus on getting the groove to feel good before I overthink anything. Once the main idea is in, I thicken the bass on purpose—because I wanted it to feel more full and big—so I add a sub underneath to beef it up. After that, I start shaping the beat by stacking melodies and testing sections: one melody that can live in a bridge/verse spot, and another that hits more like a hook. I arrange everything, come back, and play the final product straight through so you can hear how it all comes together.
