In this video I’m back on the Maschine MK3 building an R&B banger from scratch and just letting the ideas flow. You’ll see me dialing in the groove right away—listening close to how the drums feel, adjusting the kick, and stacking claps until it sits right. I’m always checking the pocket too, because if it feels a little ahead of the beat, I’m going to nudge things and reshape the pattern until it knocks the way I want. After I get the core bounce, I start expanding the beat by adding another part (another scene) and pulling patterns over so I can switch up the energy. You’ll catch me moving fast through plugins—most of what I touch is Waves, because they just work for me and I’ve been using them for years. From there it’s small details: trimming ends, swapping sounds, and grabbing extra textures (even the ones that “sound like birds” sometimes) to give me more to work with. Then I arrange the full track and play it back so you can hear the finished structure.
