Breakups. The sometimes inevitable outcome of a relationship. In the beginning it’s thrilling. You meet this person and you think “Wow, you’re everything I’ve been looking for”. You continue to see each other over and over until you realize that you can no longer live without this person. You’re happy. At peace. The endless chatter of the world is quieter now. You hope this partner you chose is the last, that you’ll never have to go back to that agonizing small talk. What’s your favourite colour? Blue, oh mine too. And then you do. You go from having all of someone, and then in the blink of an eye, they’re no one. It’s like playing Russian roulette with your heart. And when the trigger gets pulled, you feel your heart physically shatter. Your chest is heavy now. And you hope and pray that you wake up the next day and it was all a nightmare. But it’s not. You wake up and check your phone, waiting for your home to phone, but— it doesn’t ring. You’re alone. You think, “did I give my all for nothing?”. “Did I put my heart on the line just to get shot in the end?”. No. What you had was real, regardless of how it ended. Relationships are not a waste of time. They can teach you so much about yourself and teach you how to navigate future relationships. Everything happens for a reason. Even if you don’t know what the reason is now, you’ll eventually find out. Be kind to yourself. I love you.
