This is the Dreame L40 Ultra (Gen 1) that I reviewed last year and told a lot of people to buy because the value was unbeatable at the time. The big reason I still bring it up is the feature set—especially the camera-based object avoidance system that aced my testing. If you can find one new or refurbished at a good price, it’s still a strong option depending on your needs.
Pros
- +Excellent object avoidance system with camera/structured light (aced my test)
- +Included detergent tank on the dock
- +Mop pad drop-off at the dock via magnetic posts
- +Hot water mop washing (limited benefit, but it’s there)
- +Lifting side brush and ability to toggle side brush off on carpets
Cons
- -Much higher original MSRP than the Gen 2
- -Older dock tray design has more nooks and crannies to clean
- -Hot water washing wasn’t very impressive unless dealing with grease
