Hey guys, it’s Melly. In this vlog, I spend my Saturday afternoon in the library working on revisions for the paper my advisor and I submitted about a month ago. We finally got the reviewers’ comments back, and the journal said they’ll accept it after revisions—so yes, this is going to be my first ever paper to be published, and I’m honestly so excited. I also walk you through the peer review process (submit to a journal, peer review, then accept/reject/accept-with-revisions) and what it looks like to actually “polish” a manuscript based on comments. Most of my session is me double-checking that our responses match what’s in the updated manuscript—reviewer 1 and 3 first, and then reviewer 2 last because… reviewer 2 really did the most. Like, five to six pages of comments and 20-something questions. My strategy was simple: keep the manuscript open on my Mac on one side and the responses on the other so I can catch inconsistencies fast. I also learned the hard way that the library AC is brutal (iced matcha was a mistake), so I leave to thaw in the sun and have a little gratitude moment about having access to libraries and journal articles—something I didn’t always have back in undergrad.
