After 16 years of being a K-pop fan, I finally went to my very first K-pop concert—and it happened in Chicago with Seventeen. In this vlog, I talk about how I got into K-pop as a kid (Wonder Girls, 2NE1… the classics), and how Seventeen became my non-negotiable standard: not just pretty faces, but real talent, hard work, and jaw-dropping stage presence with vocals and dance that are actually flawless. I also share the part people don’t always see—how for years, concerts and travel felt like luxuries I simply couldn’t afford while trying to live within my means. When I found out Seventeen was coming to Chicago, I didn’t hesitate. I planned everything—tickets (even with the crazy demand), outfits, fan chants, and my lightstick—and it honestly felt like I was giving my younger self permission to finally have the experience she waited so long for. The concert itself was pure magic: I was smiling, crying, singing at the top of my lungs, and just completely overwhelmed in the best way. But what surprised me most was how healing it felt. It helped me reconnect with an old friend after 10+ years, and it also introduced me to new people who carried the same “I waited so long for this” story. More than anything, it reminded me it’s never too late to chase the small childhood dreams—sometimes they’re the ones that hug you back.
