The incident happened around 7:15 a.m. at the facility located at 3401 Industrial Way along the Columbia River near the Washington Oregon border about 50 miles north of Portland. Emergency crews from Longview Fire Department Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue and regional hazmat teams rushed to the scene after the tank imploded sending workers flying with chemical burns and inhalation injuries. At least one person has been confirmed dead nine employees remain missing and feared dead and nine others including a firefighter were hospitalized. Recovery operations were paused overnight due to the unstable tank which still holds an estimated 90,000 gallons of the hazardous mixture but resumed Wednesday with support from state agencies. No threat to the public has been reported and Industrial Way remains closed while crews work.
