I believe that for many people, food is the main reason for travelling. When it comes to Tokyo, Japan, besides experiencing its unique culture and scenery, searching for great food is definitely one of the top priorities for most visitors. In today’s video, I’m going to introduce three restaurants in Tokyo that I personally think are great value for money and well worth trying. 1️⃣ Fuku Sushi (near the airport, Otorii Station) The first restaurant is Fuku Sushi, a local, family-run sushi shop located near Otorii Station, close to the airport. This isn’t our first visit here—we’ve been back multiple times. The restaurant is run by a husband-and-wife team, which is a very common setup for small local eateries in Japan. Because most of their customers are locals, the owners speak very limited English, and there is no English menu. Throughout our visits, we relied on mobile translation apps and some very basic Japanese, yet we still managed to enjoy several extremely satisfying dinners. The restaurant itself is very small, but incredibly authentic. The ingredients are fresh, and almost every dish we tried was delicious. Considering the quality of the food, the prices are exceptionally good value. One important thing to note: cash only. If you’re staying near the airport, I highly recommend stopping by this very authentic local Japanese spot. Sushi Ginza Onodera is a well-known sushi chain with around 20 restaurants across Japan, the US, and China. It’s not the cheapest option, but considering its Shibuya location and the quality of the food, it offers very solid value for money and is a reliable, no-regret choice. The restaurant uses tablet ordering, with a full English menu, making it very friendly for non–Japanese speakers. It’s only a 2-minute walk from Shibuya Station (Exit A5b). If you want to experience counter-style sushi but don’t want something too intense or intimidating, this is a great option where you can relax and enjoy high-quality sushi. This is also one of my must-visit restaurants every time I come to Japan—good quality and reasonably priced. Matsuya is one of Japan’s largest fast-food chains. As of 2025, it operates 1,265 restaurants across 33 prefectures in Japan, with flagship stores also found in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Ordering is fully self-service—you barely need to speak to any staff. Simply order at the machine, take your ticket, and wait for your number to be called. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I was extremely satisfied. For 2,320 yen for two people (around AUD 20), you can easily enjoy a very filling and delicious dinner, with plenty of options to choose from. If you ever don’t know what to eat, I highly recommend trying Matsuya’s beef donburi. And honestly, I really wish Matsuya would open in Sydney one day! I know Tokyo has an overwhelming number of food choices, so I hope today’s video helps reduce some of that decision fatigue for you.See you in the next video! 👋🍣
