Inspired by Detective Conan, I followed Conan’s footsteps to Beppu, a city famous for its dramatic hot springs and steaming landscapes. This time, the destination was one of Beppu’s most iconic attractions — the Seven Hells of Beppu (Beppu Jigoku Meguri). These “hells” are not meant for bathing, but for viewing. Each one showcases a completely different geothermal phenomenon: vivid cobalt-blue waters, blood-red ponds, bubbling mud, roaring geysers, and even a crocodile-filled hell. Walking through them feels almost unreal, as if stepping into scenes straight out of an anime — or a mystery case waiting to unfold. What makes this journey even more special is seeing familiar locations through the lens of Detective Conan. From subtle references to the atmosphere of the city itself, Beppu becomes more than just a hot spring town — it turns into a place where fiction and reality quietly overlap.
