We found a used kayak on Facebook Marketplace for $750 while we’re doing our slow winter camper life in Florida, and I honestly couldn’t decide if it was a total steal or a total mistake. It had a bunch of upgrades already on it, but it was definitely outdated and needed work—like the kind of “project” that sounds fun until you’re elbow-deep in fixing stuff when you’d rather be on the water. Still, that’s real RV life for us: you take a chance on used gear, you tinker, and you learn as you go. Once we got it dialed enough to send it, we took it out on a gorgeous Florida river and turned the whole day into a catch & cook. We paddled, explored, and yes—we caught a blue crab right from the river and cooked it up. That’s the best part of this lifestyle: simple days outside, making dinner from the adventure, and rolling with whatever happens (even when the plan starts with “Did I just waste $750?”).
