About This Video

In this video I break down Anthropic’s new Claude Desktop feature called Dispatch—basically their take on “OpenClaw” / the Claude bot that can live in a persistent conversation and control your actual desktop from your phone. The key point is: this is what makes Claude Desktop genuinely useful. Before Dispatch, you had to babysit the machine and be physically in front of it. Now you can be away from your computer, “touch grass,” and still assign real tasks to the same running desktop session—with access to your installed tools, skills/plugins, and even browser control via Claude for Chrome. I walk through how it works (you need to enable it on both desktop and mobile, and you must update both apps; right now it’s Max plan only). Then I get into the real limitations and safety tradeoffs: your desktop must stay awake, Claude can’t proactively ping you (no notifications), everything lives in a single thread, and the browser can still hit phishing links or malicious instructions. I also show a concrete use case—retrieving a bank letter from my desktop while I’m away—plus why I think Anthropic’s “build every layer” approach is paying off. You can dislike the company, but the product strategy is coherent and clearly aimed at knowledge work.
