This is a quick, unexpected addendum about a week after closing, and I wanted to document what the youth center/theatre-church looks like now that McGee is out. First thing that hit me: it still has power (lobby lights on, random lights still working), but it finally smells like a truly abandoned building—musty, empty, and weirdly quiet. The “wreck room” is absolutely stripped, and seeing it that empty honestly blew my mind. You can also spot structural concerns, daylight coming through holes, persistent leaks, and areas where walls are just… gone. I walk through the basement and sanctuary areas and point out what’s still original or telling: tin ceilings, old plaster, round vents, and all the mount points where the theatre seats used to be. A lot of stuff is just gone—furnaces, fridges, tables, carpet—so it’s a rare look at the bones of the place. I also poke around the electrical/fuse panel situation (still not sure what some of it fed back in the day), and I even do a quick test on what’s basically the last fan left behind (looks like a Menards/Hunter-style builder fan).
