Leaving space, letting the paper breathe, and allowing that untouched white to do so much of the work for you. It’s a gentle but powerful shift that can completely transform your watercolours. As the piece develops, I introduce a small, unexpected element right at the end, something I’ve never used before; to add a layer of contrast and delicate texture. It completely changes the feel of the finished painting… but I’ll let you discover that with me. This tutorial is perfect if you want to: create more light and softness in your work get comfortable leaving unpainted space loosen your approach to detail and enjoy a calm, slightly experimental painting session
